The rheological properties of silver metal liquid-like films, trapped between two immiscible liquid phases, were investigated by measuring laser light scattering from the interfacial capillary waves using optical heterodyne mixing spectroscopy. All the films studied were found to have small elasticities in the range 0.27 to 1.0 dyn/cm. These values are consistent with a colloidal model of the structure of the films with diffusional processes possibly short circuiting the interfacial stresses. It also indicates a gaseous state, consistent with the charge of the surfactants and the silver colloidal particles, and the strong effect of perfluorosurfactants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
