Abstrakt: Reports on the calculation of optical extinction by a dilute dispersion of metal nanoclusters in gallium arsenide (GaAs) using the optical theorem and Maxwell-Garnet theory with complex dielectric functions for chromium, iron, nickel, copper, silver, gold, erbium and arsenic. Cause of optical extinction in inhomogeneous materials; Expression for the Mie scattering formula; Data on the particle extinction for a free-electron-metal in vacuum, glass and GaAs; Metal clusters in GaAs.
