IR reflection-absorption spectroscopy has been employed to study K–CO interactions on Ni(111) at high resolution. It has been found that a mixture of long range and short range interactions are discernible. An ensemble of as many as ∼25 CO molecule/K is affected by the long range K· · ·CO interaction. In addition, Kδ+x(CO)δ-y complexes produced by short range electrostatic effects are observed, yielding characteristic C–O stretching frequencies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
