Abstrakt: This book, which deals with two great music groups, the cantigas of Alfonso the Wise and the music of the troubadours, is the first in a new series, Studies in Central and Eastern European Music, edited by Zoltdn Falvy, and it represents an auspicious beginning. Zoltdn Falvy has done sterling service to the study of the medieval monophonic repertory in a volume which gives an account of the origins of troubadour music and the development of European secular music, presenting much that is new in its approach, its methodology, its analyses and its conclusions.
