Abstrakt: This article presents a novel method for determining the local heat flux in heated tubes. The technique was applied to a condensing test section to investigate the in-tube local condensation heat transfer, using a jacket pipe to create an annulus for coolant, with thermocouples mounted on the annulus inner and outer walls. Based on the κ-ϵ turbulence model, coolant temperature-profile shape factors were calculated to provide a matrix of profile factors. The local coolant bulk temperature could then be calculated from the measured temperatures on both annulus walls, and coolant flow rate. The local heat fluxes were then determined from an energy balance using a statistically selected fit of the coolant bulk temperature data. The new method improves experimental accuracy significantly compared to other techniques. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
