Abstrakt: Results are reported from a postal survey of a comrnu- nity sample of young men and women age 17-1 8 from divorced and non-divorced families. Congruent with the results from previous research. adolescents from divorced backerounds who were current- ly involved in a heterosexual relationship;eported more emotionally distant father-child relationshios. However. adolescents from di- vorced backgrounds who r e p i e d emotionally distant mother-child relationships were less likely to be involved in a heterosexual rela- tionship, indicating that the quality of childhood relationships with both mothers and fathers in postdivorce families are important in- fluences in adolescent relationship involvement. In contrast, the quality of parent-child relationships was not associated with rela- tionship involvement among adolescents with manied parents. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
