A modified version of the model proposed by Ander- sen was used to predict perceived service need, service awareness, and service utilization among elderly respondents.'Variables in the model explained a much larger percentage of the variance of service utilization than either perceived service need or service awareness. Most of the variance of service utilization was explained by greater need, greater 'service awareness, and three predisposing variables (specifically being a woman, African-American, and/or unmarried).
