Appropriate interview techniques are important for health care and social service professionals and others who teach students and/or work with older adults. An instructional videotape was developed to teach pharmacy students and other health professionals how to conduct a medication interview with an older adult. Positive t‐test results from posttest scores compared with pretest scores indicate an increase in student knowledge concerning communication with older adults within a medication interview format. This nontraditional instructional approach demonstrates leadership in incorporating gerontologic content and increasing viewer awareness and appreciation without requiring timeconsuming major, curriculum, revision processes. This approach appears to be a viable alternative for instructors in the health care and social service professions as well as a number of other disciplines. The author would like to acknowledge the assistance of Davis L. Gardner, Kathryn Ranta, and Doris Sigl during the materials development phase of the project. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER] |
