Abstrakt: This paper outlines an approach to the Christian education of Black children and young people in Britain that seeks to use the insights of African‐centred approaches to education. It commences with an exploration into the development of African‐centred approaches to education which originated in the United States. The author then seeks to outline some of the central ideas of this ideological perspective on the process of teaching and learning. The author argues that African‐centred approaches to education are an important resource for the specific task of teaching the Christian faith to children and young people of African descent in the United Kingdom. The article concludes with a brief illustration from the piloting of the practical African‐centred Christian education curriculum that emerged from this study. These teaching materials represent one of the first attempts to ground many of the central themes of African‐centred thinking into a Christian education curriculum. This approach, although focused on the task of Christian education, contains a number of insights that can inform the discipline of religious education in British schools [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
