The spread of missile technology combined with nuclear weapons is dangerous to world peace. In order to stop this transfer, the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) was formed in 1987. The control mechanism of the MTCR is explained, and characteristics and limits of the regime are analyzed. The cases of the United States vs. China and India vs. Pakistan in the development and export of missiles are analyzed in detail to find the motivation to get this weapon. Chinese missile exports stimulated the United States to impose economic sanctions. The political dynamics between national security and trade colored this drama. To update the recent situation, the nuclear tests of both India and Pakistan are followed, together with the development and tests of the missile to carry nuclear weapons. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER] |
