A simple feeding formula, percent body weight of food to give = 2 x °C/(100k x L), is offered the fish culturist; k is condition factor and L is fish length. The formula is based on the Buterbaugh-Willoughby hatchery constant, but the shortcomings of that method (i.e., how to deal with variable water temperatures and condition factors) are overcome. As with all feeding formulas and tables, this formula serves merely as a guideline. Use of this formula provides a rapid, practical tool to evaluate the efficiency of an ongoing feeding program. It can be applied when only water temperature, fish length, and condition factor are known. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER] |
