Abstrakt: The integration and normalization of handicapped students in an educational setting has long been a problem in most countries throughout the world. Many background factors such as demography, population, physical size, historical developments have created difficulty or have supported procedures for dealing with handicapped students and have significantly influenced the philosophy and laws behind this issue. This paper compares the approaches that have been taken in Sweden and the United States, looking at the similarities and differences of these two countries in dealing with the problem of integration and normalization of handicapped students in the public school systems. The paper also deals with problems confronting both of these countries, and the possible solutions to these problems. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
