A theoretical framework was developed in which the demand for recreation‐related goods and services (RGS) was specified as a function of prices, income, and leisure time budgets. Aggregate annual U. S. price and expenditure data were collected and reported for the post‐World War II era (1946–1988), along with labor participation rates and length of work week. The results indicate that RGS demand is highly elastic with respect to income and leisure time, but relatively price‐inelastic. Leisure time was found to be a substitute for RGS.
