Technology has impacted society in diverse ways. Libraries have not been exempt from the consequences of technology. Yet even as libraries become more technical and technologically challenging in their use, reference librarians have to be aware of the human aspects viable in the performance of our duty. We are challenged to recognize our diverse users and their needs, be clear in our definition of the terminology used in this new era, emphasize critical thinking and the existence of print, be honest in our quest for innovations at staffing the reference desk, and finally be willing to learn as much as possible. We must become part of this new age in order to be able to interact with and instruct our users. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER] |
