The reference staff of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Margaret Herrick Library. regularly encounters a broad range of enquiries regarding multiple aspects of motion pictures as an art form and an industry. The questions posed on any given business day reflect the wide range of interests and backgrounds of those who have need for the library's resources. Users include those involved in the current business of motion pictures as well as those studying past history. This essay will explore this subject to better understand the nature of our library, the different types of researchers who use it and the best ways to assist these researchers.
