Abstrakt: The article focuses on the role of relics of technological and scientific progress during the 19th century. It says that steam engines were respected and valued during that period, particularly the 39-foot tall, 680-ton, two-cylinder Corliss engine costing 77,000 dollars. It states that people also collected fragments of ruined technology like the train crashes in 1877 and 1896. Moreover, interest in living and dead technology was connected to practices memorializing death.
