The article focuses on convention rhetoric. The use of speech for the rhetorician derives for the most part from the pursuit of goals that transcend individual interests and from purposes that encompass the needs and aspirations of mankind at large. Critics warn of potential abuse because the interdependence of speech and democratic institutions is manifest and failures in the province of rhetoric can be disastrous for a nation that pretends to any semblance of democracy. |
