According to Olive, the log-area vocoder parameter curves may be replaced by straight-line trains. Here a fast algorithm is presented for fitting a straight-line train to a sampled function in the least-squares sense. The segment boundaries are given, their ordinate values are calculated. When the boundaries are the same for several functions, the first part of the algorithm need be applied only once. The number of operations increases linearly with the number of samples.
