An analytical model is presented for the generation of noise from an open tie deck elevated structure during the passage of a train. Predictions are compared with measurements before and after installation of resilient fasteners. The model is found to be reasonably accurate, predicting an A-weighted sound level reduction of approximately 2 dB less than actually occurs. The analytical model is then used to estimate the noise reduction achievable through a variety of noise reduction techniques. Resilient rail fasteners seem to be the most promising technique, offering an A-weighted sound level reduction of nearly 10 dB. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
