Abstrakt: Scaling of acoustical targets has been for many years an integral part of the acoustic program of ARL as well as many other laboratories. This paper presents a brief summary of the scaling laws. Also presented are a series of backscattering data for a series of aluminum targets whose scale factors range from 1 to 1/15. These data are compared to the theoretical equations [after J. J. Faran, J. Acoust. Soc. Amer. 23, 405 (1951)] for the backscattered energy. Good agreement between experiment and theory has been obtained. [Work sponsored by Naval Ship Systems Command.] [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
