Polytrimethylene terephthalate/polyamide 6 drawn-textured yarn was split by alkaline hydrolysis to produce superfine filaments with triangular cross-sections. Alkali deweighting, splitting morphology, mechanical property, heat shrinkage property, and crimping performance of this yarn were tested and results compared to PET/polyamide 6 drawn textured and drawn twist yarns. Results showed that alkali deweighting rate of this new yarn increased with alkali concentration and temperature. Alkali deweighting was less than that of the PET/polyamide 6 yarns studied. Both breaking strength and breaking work decreased as alkali concentration increased. Heat shrinkage and crimp shrinkage of the new yarn was also determined and compared with the PET/polyamide 6 yarns. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
