| Abstrakt: |
The article highlights the magnitude of elder financial abuse in the U.S. which is the unauthorized use or illegal taking of funds or property of people aged 60 and older. A 2010 prevalence study in New York state showed that the highest elder mistreatment rate was financial abuse with a 4% rate and underreporting may be higher than previously estimated. It is stated that factors placing elders at financial abuse risk include age, sex, health and functional abilities, and living arrangements. |
