Abstrakt: The article provides a case study of Mexico and its citizens in order to determine citizen appraisal of presidential leadership before and after democratization, which largely came about in Mexico during the presidential elections of 2000. Particular focus is given to citizens' perceptions of the president's ability to decrease crime and government corruption during both a democratic era and an authoritarian one dominated by the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI).
