Abstrakt: Immobilized biocatalysts, including immobilized microbial cells, mammalian cells, and enzymes, have been the object of considerable industrial and academic research. A variety of methods and supports are used for preparing these biocatalysts. Applications for immobilized biocatalysts include the production of chemical, pharmaceutical, and food products in both aqueous and nonaqueous solvents by microbial transformation, bioconversion, and enzymatic reaction. Recent US patents and scientific literature on immobilized biocatalysts are surveyed. A description of these patents and a list of references are given. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
