Abstrakt: Starting from the results of earlier screening tests of binary high-temperature intermetallic compounds, alloys based on AlNb, A1V, IrNb, SiV, and SiY have been studied by microhardness, elastic modulus, impact strength, and, in some cases, compressional stress-strain behavior. Significant improvements were observed only in the IrNb-based alloys, several of which, like IrNb itself, have good impact resistance and some plasticity at room temperature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
