In vitro studies on the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (replicase) induced by foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) upon infection have shown it to be stimulated by spermidine at suboptimal Mg concentrations irrespective of the ionic strength. Maximum conditions for the synthesis of polynucleotide chains were found to be 20 mM spermidine and 30 mM Mg. Furthermore, the degree of the enhancement by spermidine on enzymic activity was a non-linear, reciprocal function of the Mg concentration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
