Green monkey kidney cells infected with SV40 are capable of supporting the multiplication of ECHO7 virus, vaccinia virus and simian adenovirus SV15. Apparently the cell damaged by SV40 loses its ability to support the reproduction of ECHO7 virus only at the late stages of the infectious process. Formation of adeno SV40 hybrids following joint multiplication of SV40 and simian adenoviruses SV15, SV23, and SV32 during 10 passages could not be demonstrated. No detectable amounts of interferon were found in green monkey kidney cells infected with SV40 virus (large-plaque and small-plaque strains). Influenza A virus inhibits the reproduction and the cytopathogenic activity of SV40 in green monkey kidney cells. One of the factors responsible for interference in this system is probably an interferon-like inhibitor induced by influenza virus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
