During the spray deposition of nickel-clad titanium carbide the particles retain their metallic shells; the starting components react with each other, which affects the phase composition of the resultant coating. When a CM contains an insufficient amount of the cladding metal, the TiC particles undergo comminution, the microhardness of the matrix grows, and the resistance of coatings to wear and thermal fatigue diminishes. The deposition process parameters affecting the phase composition and operating characteristics of costings most are the rate of supply of argon an the hydrogen content of the gas mixtures.
