On the basis of a thermodynamic analysis of the possible exothermic reactions in the oxygen-free systems BC-Me and SiC-Me (where Me is Ti, Zr, Nb, or Cr) it is shown that materials based on the systems BC-Ti and SiC -Ti, reacting with the formation of titanium carbide, boride, and suicide, constitute effective thermite mixtures. Confirmation of this conclusion has been furnished by qualitative experimental evaluations of the thermal characteristics of the mixtures selected. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
