Abstrakt: Chamotte obtained by calcining Novoselitsk kaolin in a rotary kiln, upon repeat heating to 1550°C and with a soak of 6 h gives an expansion of up to 9.6%, as a result of the expansion of the gaseous phase located in the closed pores and of the action of local reducing conditions during rapid heating of the kaolin. Rapid firing of kaolin and intense cooling of the material causes the development of an irregular system which, upon repeat firing of the chamotte, tends to equilibrium, which causes a change in the volume and structure of the product. Firing the kaolin into chamotte should be done in conditions which exclude the formation of local reducing conditions in the lumps of material during heating. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
