Some features of the microstructure of a silaceous ceramic concrete.

Abstrakt: When a silaceous ceramic concrete is heat-treated, the particles of dispersed quartz binder degenerate according to the 'dry' system: α-quartz→ α-cristobalite, i. e., without the formation of tridymite. Soaking the ceramic concrete with a solution of NaSiO of density 1.05 g/cm leads to the compaction of the structure on drying and firing and helps to generate the ring microcracks by contrast with the intersecting microcracks in the original ceramic concrete. The polymorphous transitions after heat treatment of the original ceramic concrete are accompanied by an increase in volume and by the formation of intersecting microcracks. The formation on firing of the ring and intersecting microcracks affects the thermal-shock resistance of the ceramic concrete by relaxing the internal thermal stresses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
