Bricks molded from a pilot-industrial batch of periclase-spinel clinker produced in the Refractories Division of the NTMC exhibited good properties, notably high-temperature strength. The experimental brick was subjected to testing in the lining of the impingement side of a 130-ton converter. Its durability proved to be 431 melts, i. e., nearly double that of the magnesite-chromite brick produced in the Refractories Division. Like that of periclase-spinel refractories the wear of the experimental brick took the form mainly of layer-forming ('scaling') and of corrosion and erosion of the working surface by the action of the products of the smelting process.
