Fashioning foreign identities: Finelli's 'opportunism' of style.

Abstrakt: The article discusses the range of styles used by Italian baroque sculptor Giuliano Finelli. The author traces conceptual changes in Finelli's portrait sculpture and explores the idea that Finelli varied his style to the taste of his clients, including for Florentine clients. Other topics include Finelli's work on portrait sculptures in the workshop of Gian Lorenzo Bernini and his inclusion of subjects' hands in his portrait sculptures. Specific portraits discussed include "Michelangelo Buonarroti the Younger," "Maria Barberini," "An Unknown Gentleman," and "Marietta Strozzi."
