Abstrakt: A Rhodococcus sp., isolated from soil, was able to use squalene as the sole carbon source. The principal metabolic product from squalene was detected by thin layer and high performance liquid chromatography, and identified as 2, 6, 10, 15, 19, 23-hexamethyltetraco-sa-2, 6, 10, 14, 18, 22-hexaen-12-one by nuclear magnetic resonance, infrared, ultra-violet, and mass spectrometry.
