Abstrakt: At the Bundesversuchs- und Forschungsanstalt Arsenal, Vienna, a new lowlevel laboratory has been established for routine measurements of H3, C14 and other radionuclides in environmental materials and samples related to radiation protection. The laboratory had to be planned within the limits given by an existing building. A room with 1.6m concrete shielding serves as low-level counting area (50m). Additional shielding (3cm lead, 0,6cm steel) was provided. Due to the given room dimensions mineral substances couldn't be used as shielding materials. The low-level properties of all the shielding and construction materials used had to be verified. A special ventilation system provides filtered air and reduces the background due to radon considerably. Instrumentation, results of background measurements and objectives of the laboratory with respect to problems connected with radiation protection are discussed. The basic hard- and software of the computer system to manage measuring devices and data - partially in real-time mode - and calculate results are shortly described. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
