A field experiment was conducted during kharif season of 2008 and 2009 to study the performance of maize cultivars as affected by Integrated Nutrient Management under Terai region of West Bengal. The experiment was laid out in split plot design with three replications. The results revealed that M2 (75% recommended dose of fertilizer + vermicompost @ 2 t ha-1) recorded tallest plant (2.40 and 2.19 cm) in both years of investigation at harvest. Leaf area index, dry matter production, days to 50 and 100 % tasseling & silking and number of effective cobs plant-1 were found highest under M2, which ultimately resulted in production of highest (65788.90) number of cobs ha-1. Superiority of maize cultivars in terms of number of cobs ha-1 were in the order of Vivek-15> HIM-129 > VL-88 > Vivek-5 > Vivek-4 > Pundibari local >Vivek-11>Vivek-17 and Vivek-9. Among the manure levels M2 fetched highest B: C ratio of 2.82 whereas among the cultivars Vivek-15 recorded highest B: C ratio of 3.08. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
