| Abstrakt: | The article discusses the history of early national avalanche schools of the U.S. Forest Service (USFS). USFS held an annual avalanche school in Alta, Utah from 1950s to 1971. The first USFS National Avalanche School (NAS) was held in Reno, Nevada in 1971. The event was again held in Reno in 1972 and in Seattle, Washington in 1973. The event was moved back to Reno in 1974. |
