Five surgical cases are described in which heminephrectomy has been performed on kidneys with reduplication of the pelvis. In one of the cases the operation consisted in the resection of the lower portion of a solitary kidney. The surgical indications are discussed with a view to minimum renal tissue compatible with survival and thus being a prerequisite to this kind of surgery. Transitory constriction of the renal hilum during the procedure of heminephrectomy is advocated on the ground of favourable observations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
