Fourteen new complexes were prepared involving metals from vanadium to zinc and the ligand meso-1,2-bis(propylsulphinyl) ethane. Whereas the mode of coordination of the sulphoxide to the metal is always the same ( via the oxygen atoms), an unusual coordination scheme prevails in two of the complexes containing the nitrate group, which acts both as a counter ion and as a coordinated ligand.
