Outbreak of Salmonellosis Associated with Pet Turtle Exposures -- United States, 2011.

Abstrakt: The article reports on an outbreak of Salmonellosis in humans associated with exposure to pet turtles being investigated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) with the Pennsylvania State Health Department in 2011. There were 132 reported cases of human Salmonella enterica serotype Paratyphi B variety L (+) tartrate + infections in 18 states from August 5, 2010 to September 26, 2011. The implication of the outbreak on efforts to ban purchasing small turtles is cited.
