Immunochemical and functional assays for the presence of C1 esterase were carried out on serum obtained from 60 healthy adults. These assays are of value in the diagnosis of hereditary angioneurotic oedema. The method for the functional assay is described in detail. The results indicate that there is a poor correlation between functional and immunochemical values. Both methods should be employed in the assessment of the patient with hereditary angioneurotic oedema. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
