Abstrakt: Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate knowledge and attitude related to tooth avulsion of primary school teachers from Dakar, Senegal, through a questionnaire. Materiel and methods: The study was conducted in sixty randomly chosen primary schools from Dakar, Senegal. All teachers of selected schools were included in the study. The data were collected by self administered questionnaire. The questions were focused on the general data of teachers, experience of tooth avulsion and importance of emergency management. The data were analyzed using chi square test. Results: The sample consisted of 258 males (46.6%) and 292 females (52.7%). The age group from 20- 40 years old represented 50.4% of the sample, followed by the 41- 60 age group with 43.5%. Experience of tooth avulsion was reported by 36.1% of the teachers. Tooth avulsion was considered a dental emergency by 67.2%. In case of tooth avulsion, 65% would get in contact with the dental service, 20.2% would call the child's parents. Reimplantation was chosen by 7.2%, with no statistically significant differences (p=0.05) between the gender and age groups. Without reimplantation, the tooth was preserved only by 37.7%. The tooth was stored in a humid medium by 27.3% of the teachers, the rest stored the teeth in compress (43.3%) or paper (13.9%). The most often used solutions were the antiseptics (45.3%), tap water (22.6%), physiological serum (11.3%), milk (9.4%), and ice water (5.7%). Others solutions were ice and saliva(mouth) of the child, with respectively, 7.7% and 1% Conclusion: This study reveals the lack of knowledge of teachers in Dakar about tooth avulsion.
