Illustration of the new flexible fiberoptic colonoscope, details of the operating procedure and several cases with disorders in the rectum or sigmoid area were presented. The importance of endoscopie examination of the rectum and sigmoid colon using the flexible fiberscope and the usual proctoscope was emphasized. It was also valuable in examining strictures induced by malignant invasion or repeated inflammatory processes and in examining the post operative large bowel.
