A growing number of investigations dealing with the clinical application and diagnostic sensitivity of urethral pressure profile (UPP) measurements have revealed the limitation of this technique, especially in the diagnosis of female stress incontinence. However, in a minority of cases in which part of the urethral wall is anatomically defunctionalised, due to either scar tissue or defects of the sphincter, information and guidelines for treatment can be obtained from UPP studies. In this report the value of the UPP in the preoperative assessment of this difficult group of patients is emphasised. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
