Optimum conditions for the colour reaction of dian with nitrous acid in acid medium followed by alkalization with ammonia have been found. Investigation showed that 2,2′-dinitrodian is the main product of the reaction, accompanied by a small amount of 2,2′,6-trinitrodian.
