Two specimens of Libyan Desert glass (LDG), the controversial glass fragments found in Great Sand Sea of Libyan Desert (Egypt), were analyzed by Raman microspectroscopy assisted by X-ray microfluorescence. Quartz, cristobalite, and anatasa were identified, together with other LDG compounds like corundum and feldspars, found in previous works. However, in our LDG inclusions, other uncommon compounds for high-temperature glasses were determined, such as, sodium carbonate, calcite, gypsum, anhydrite, and even cinnabar, indicating a trapping process just before the end of the cooling process conducive to the formation of the current glass phases of the LDG objects.
