The article discusses the traditional Japanese folk dance called the Tanko Bushi which is known in Japanese culture as the Bon Odori dance. The author discusses the dance technique and its expression of cultural elements that relate to coal miners in Japan. Topics include various lessons of teaching the Tanko Bushi, its resonance with Appalachian region coal mining in the U.S., and the book "Brain-Compatible Dance Education," by A. G. Gilbert. |
