Abstrakt: The objectives of this research were to identify long-range predictors of social adjustment and to determine the multiple correlation between these predictors and the social adjustment of children after 6 or 9 years had elapsed. The subjects were 536 children who were first evaluated in third or sixth grade and for whom social adjustment was assessed either 8 or 9 years later. A multiple correlation of .66 for a best set of predictors was found. Significant predictors included classroom behavior traits, arithmetic achievement level, response to a sentence completion test, rating of the parents' marital relationship, and maternal discipline. These findings are discussed in terms of early identification and treatment of children likely to experience subsequent social maladjustment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
