This article considers the characteristics of the Italian parliamentary bureaucracy in the nineteenth century. In its first stages it paid for the novelty of these representative institutions, though its character as the apparatus strictly serving parliamentary functions was immediately evident. At the beginning it merely had tasks of execution and registration (the function of producing detailed reports of the parliamentary debates was probably the most important besides that of guaranteeing the carrying out of parliamentary activities).
