An essay is presented on the literary, personal, and cultural influences of Chinua Achebe's "Things Fall Apart" to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's "Purple Hibiscus." It is the author's view that the depictions of filial relationships in the said novels show how representation of fathers and daughters in African literature are starting debates on genealogies, traditions, and canons. He explores how the daughter's embodiment of patrilineal heritage threatens her place in the patrilineal family line. |
